We Are The Champions10/9/2017 The infamous ISM Business Symposium. I clearly recall this point in the school year last year, as it might have been one of the most nerve wrecking moments of ISM. I remember being extremely nervous, and not knowing at all what to expect. However, this year was a completely different approach. As I knew ahead of time exactly what I was getting myself into, I was less nervous. More than anything, I was excited and ready to take advantage of this opportunity to network among my peers and professionals, as well as receive criticism regarding my interviews.
Networking was a large part of this years ISM Business Symposium. I was grateful to be given the opportunity to network among my fellow ISM students, and I actually made a great contact through this portion of the event! I was in a group with an ISM one student who is studying audio engineering and music production. As soon as he found out that I was studying music, but a different component of it, we began talking. After exchanging contact information, we decided that we would keep in touch and consider working together in the near future. I am looking forward to additional opportunities that this one interaction will have for my future through ISM. In addition to networking, I was excited to participate in the mock interviews. I recall last year that I felt as if the interviews was the most beneficial portion of the event. This year, I did not receive as much criticism compared to last year. I recall last year's interviews consisting of the professional providing me with a handful of criticisms regarding my interview skills. Through this, I shown exactly how much improvement needed to be made in this field. However, this year proved differently. Most of the interviewers that I met with only had positive feedback, and it showed me how although there is still room for improvement, my interview skills in comparison to last year have drastically improved. In comparison to last year, I felt as if this years event was much more successful. I was able to focus less on my nervousness and anxiousness, and more on improving my professional skills. The feedback that I attained was very beneficial, and I will continue to practice it and hopefully improve as the year progresses.
