Roll it on Home10/16/2017 This week of ISM consisted of a handful of activities, I was kept pretty busy both in regards to ISM, my other classes, and outside of school!
This past Saturday, I was given the opportunity to perform at the Frisco Arts Walk in Hope Park, on a Steinway piano. Before anything else, I would like to acknowledge that this was probably the most expensive grand piano that I had ever played, and it played BEAUTIFULLY. This performance included a handful of extremely talented individuals showcasing their talents to an audience of music appreciators, and I was honored and humbled to take part in this. This performance was a great opportunity for me to record videos of myself in performance, and upload them as a component of my digital portfolio, which will greatly contribute towards the aspect of networking and leaving a positive “digital footprint” (both very vital components in my career of choice). In addition to this performance, this week consisted of a handful of successful cold calls and scheduled interviews! In fact, within the next two weeks, I have an interview with both a music teacher at the Centre of Musical Minds in Frisco, and a music producer in Dallas. Last year, I heavily struggled with cold calling. I was always nervous the second the phone began to ring, and I clearly remember being terrified to even make a call. I am very proud in the fact that through networking and cold calls, I have already completed 1 interview and have 2 scheduled for the near future! It is great to be able to see personal progress, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for myself in regards to networking, creating contacts, and finding a mentor. It scares me how fast senior year is progressing. Especially college applications, and everything that goes into that...it’s almost overwhelming. However, the things that push me towards maintaining my work ethic are wanting to have a successful future and wanting to accomplish my goals. Through ISM, I am earning access to things that some college students have not even been given the opportunity to experience, and it has been truly motivating. This year in ISM is moving much faster in comparison to last year. I definitely hit the ground running, and I hope that with this past experience and drive to do well, I am able to accomplish even more than I did last year.
